Magnus Irvin, Brian Reffin Smith, Jean Ferry & Alastair Brotchie

This issue is divided into two parts. The first considers the Painting Machine in the context of the both the Collège and the Great External. The second celebrates the recent ascension to the fundamental chair of the Regency of Practical Work with the Painting Machine by Magnus Irvin, Secretary of Manifestations of the LIP. This section takes the form of a first sketch of the history of the LIP edited to foreground Irvin’s role within the Institute and his contributions to the Science in this context and in others, namely with regard to his other activities and personae. Among other matters, an inspiring and little-known story of heroic entrepreneurship is revealed.
