ENCOMIA FOR ANTHONY HANCOCK

£10.00

Out of print, last few copies.

This publication formed the catalogue for an exhibition mounted by a department of the London Institute of ’Pataphysics in 2002 at The Foundry in Shoreditch, east London. Having reconstructed the artistic œuvre of Anthony Hancock as depicted in the film The Rebel (all the paintings and the principal sculpture, Aphrodite At the Waterhole), these works were given a rigorously “serious” showing to great public acclaim. The catalogue, which suffers somewhat from being a very early example of digital printing, features a Catalogue raisoné of Hancock’s works in colour (as reconstructed for the exhibition) an introduction by Stanley Chapman, critical essays by the editors, Stewart Home, Robert Irwin and by Andrew Wilson (a curator at Tate Britain). the book ends with a final essay by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, the much-missed authors of the screenplay (which was later published as issue 6 of the Journal of the LIP).
