Marcel Marien
THE LIFE AND DEATH OF LA BELLE DESIDERATA & OTHER STORIES

£60.00

Out of print, very few copies indeed.

Translated by Terry Hale in collaboration with the author.

Six stories by the most mischievous of Belgian Surrealism, obsessive, upsetting, humorous.

Marcel Mariën was one of the most important figures from the Belgian Surrealist movement. A remarkably prolific object-maker, sculptor, photographer and author, he also edited many of the most important reviews to appear in Belgium: Le Ciel Bleu (1945), Le Miroir unfidèle, Le Lèvres Nues, Le Fait Accompli. His book L’Activite Surréaliste en Belgique is the last word on the subject. Recently his short story collections have gained him a wide and enthusiastic readership in France and Belgium, partly as a result of the scandal which accompanied the publication of his autobiography Le Radeau de la Mémoire in 1983.
